BigPaul, Red Sox, and you, and we sat in the same classroom some 30+ years ago in Taishen. Where shall I begin... * Yes, to be an 100% American, one has to understand and appreciate baseball. When I was living at Boston in the 80s, many Red Sox fans, sentimentally echoed in the radio, that, their father's dying wishes, was to live and see the Red Sox to win the world series before dead. I fully understand how wonderful the wish has being fulfilled... Z-Far can hardly write in Chinese now, but he is no baseball fan, he is still trying to understand baseball. Folks, I know this much, if your kids like baseball, give him/her the best chance to do so. May be, it is the only tangible notion of what seperate you, the Class78 generation, and your kids. * Too bad, we did not have baseball in Tashen, when we grew up. Then, our lives may be shaped differently. Really, to fully understand the American cultures, and may be the Japanese passion on baseball, one has to look into the game of baseball. * A few recollections gathered about baseball in America, over the years: 1) It is the only sporting event, where the defense has the ball (Yes, this is significant, come to think of it). 2) What do you think of the baseball players, spitting, every 5 seconds, far more often than us (Tashenese kids, when we were young). 3) Have you read the novel, \"the summer of 1948\" (a baseball story). * BigPaul, you are torn, American, vs Chinese/Tashenese. Your kids, no such dilema, let them fully embrace and exprience baseball, the Taishenese mystery... No sigifcance, just a blog... |
